SDPD Memorial May 4, 2017

The San Diego Police Department will be honoring their officers  at 1401 Broadway (SDPD Headquarters) by the monument on Broadway on May 4th at 11:30 AM.

SDPD-Officer-DeGuzmanA Funeral Mass will be held for Officer Jonathan “JD” DeGuzman at 11:00am on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church located at 450 Corral Canyon Road, Bonita, CA. Members of the public are welcome.

A public memorial service for law enforcement and community members will be held as follows:

DATE/TIME: Friday, August 5, 2016 – 11:00am
LOCATION: Shadow Mountain Community Church
2100 Greenfield Drive, El Cajon CA

Law enforcement personnel will stage at the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot in San Diego for a 9:00am departure to the El Cajon memorial service. A procession to Officer DeGuzman’s interment at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita will follow the Friday memorial service. Glen Abbey Memorial Park is located at 3838 Bonita Road.

At approximately 11:00pm on Thursday, July 28, 2016, Officer Jonathan “JD” DeGuzman and Officer Wade Irwin, members of San Diego Police Department’s Gang Suppression Unit, radioed they were conducting a stop in the 3700 block of Acadia Grove Way near Boston Avenue in San Diego’s Southcrest neighborhood. Almost immediately they called for emergency cover. Responding officers found both Officer DeGuzman and Officer Irwin with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. Officer Irwin, a 9-year veteran, was in serious condition after surgery and is expected to survive. Tragically, Officer DeGuzman did not survive his injuries.

A massive manhunt for the suspects was launched through Boston Avenue and surrounding areas. One suspect, wounded while being taken into custody in a ravine area off South 38th Street, was hospitalized in critical condition. Search for a second suspect continued into Friday.

Officer DeGuzman, age 43, is survived by his wife and two young children. A 16-year department veteran, Officer DeGuzman was awarded SDPD’s purple heart in 2003 after being stabbed by a suspect he stopped for speeding.

The San Diego POA has established a fund for the DeGuzman family. Checks can be made payable to the San Diego Police Officers Association and mailed to:
